When does my membership become effective?

Your membership and all of its benefits will commence as soon as the Museum receives your payment; until you receive your membership card, presentation of your photo ID will be sufficient to secure all membership benefits, including Museum admission.

I made a contribution for a Membership but have not received my acknowledgement or membership packet. When will I receive my membership packet?

Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your membership packet, which includes your acknowledgement.

Do I need to reserve tickets in advance if I am a Member?

No, admission tickets are not required for Members. As a Member you receive free unlimited admission during the term of your membership. Please check Hours and Admissions before visiting to confirm that the Museum is open.

Reserved tickets are required for public programs. Members receive discounts to these programs.

Is a Membership tax-deductible?

Yes. A tax acknowledgement is included in your membership packet.

I lost my membership card and plan to visit. How do I get a new one?

When you visit the Museum, please present your photo ID to the Admission Desk to receive your free Member access. To order a replacement card please see the staff at the Membership Desk or contact the Membership Office at 215-923-3811 x106 or

What is the Young Friends add-on?

Members 21-40 years old may add additional benefits to their membership with the Young Friends add-on category. The Young Friends membership includes special programs and events for young adults committed to supporting the Museum.

May I give a family member /friend my membership card to visit the Museum?

No. Membership is non-transferable. Only the Member(s) listed on the membership are permitted to enjoy the benefits. Members may be asked to present a form of ID with their membership card when visiting the Museum.

How do I get my guest passes?

Guest Passes are issued at the beginning of your membership term and sent in your membership packet. If you did not receive them, please inform the staff at the Admission Desk at the time of your visit in order to redeem the guest passes.

I am interested in the Smithsonian Affiliate Membership add-on. What does that include?

For an additional gift of $20, you receive a one-year subscription to the Smithsonian Magazine and reciprocal admission to Smithsonian Affiliate Museums. For a list of participating museums please visit here.

How do I receive reciprocal admission benefits at museums participating in the North American Reciprocal program? (Supporter level and above)

Supporter level Members and above will receive their membership card with a gold sticker. A current membership card with this sticker must be presented to participating museums. For a list of participating museums please visit here.
